TIES Term Tours

There are many exciting and different activities available once you arrive in Townsville. Use your three day weekends to explore the activities on offer.

During term time you will have several opportunities to travel with your classmates to various locations within the Townsville area. This is just another way that we make your stay with TIES the best it can possibly be.

Visit Reef HQ - "The world's largest living reef aquarium"
Visit The Museum of Tropical North Queensland
Visit Paluma - Rainforest walks and Australian Geography
Visit Magnetic Island for Bushwalks and Beaches
Visit The Heritage Tea Rooms - Australian History.

Below are some examples of some activities on offer!

Magnetic Island - From the air Explore the breathtakingly beautiful Magnetic Island and swim in the crystal clear blue waters or hike up the forts walk to a magnificent panoramic view at the top. For something more adrenalin packed you could take a jet ski tour around the island or opt for aerobatics with the local 'Red Barren' sea plane joy flights. However if relaxing is more your style then kick back on one of the many deserted tropical beaches and take in the beauty, not to mention the many world class restaurants along the way. Outside Reef HQ Take a five minute bus ride into the heart of Townsville to find an abundance of things to see and do. Within a 50 meter walking radius you can find the worlds largest living reef aquarium at 'Reef HQ' (a must see), the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Cultural Centre and the excellent North Queensland Tropical Museum. Each of these world class tourist attractions are a must see and can be explored on a budget (especially with student ID discounted rates).

The Billabong Sanctuary Only 15 minutes south of Townsville is the amazing Billabong Sanctuary. Take your time to stroll around the beautiful grounds enjoying the interactive tours and feeding times. You can hold a saltwater Crocodile or watch them being fed from safety, hold a koala and see many Australian native animals. A great day out which is worth your time and effort.

One of the many Cafes and Restaurants around Townsville Enjoy world class cuisine in one of the many Townsville restaurants. Your taste buds will experience flavours and tastes from diverse cultures such as Australian, European and Asian. Many restaurants have beautiful views of the surrounding areas and you will definitely be impressed. You can also get a caffeine fix in one of the many cafes.

There are several walking tracks close to town with spectacular views and clean fresh air.
Play a round of Golf at one of many courses located within 5 minutes of town. (You can play 18 holes for around A$18).
You can relax on the strand (but don't forget to slip slop slap!).
You can go shopping in one of the many shopping centers.
Watch the latest movies on the big screen with your student concession discount.
Play mixed social sports offered through TIES.
Go for a swim at a local waterhole such as at Paluma or or Little Crystal Creek.
If you enjoy fishing then there are many local spots guaranteed to catch a big one.
Go scuba diving or snorkeling...
