Elton John is set to perform at Dairy Farmers Stadium following a tremendous show of support with a petition signed by many local residents. Townsville is growing as another viable option for many international entertainers along with other cities such as Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.

Queensland’s
Great Barrier Reef has been awarded the prestigious international Tourism
for Tomorrow award for Best Destination in Lisbon, Portugal, at this year’s
Tourism for Tomorrow Awards. Only four awards were issued by the World
Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) at its 7th Global Travel & Tourism Summit
and the Great Barrier Reef was one of them. The award is significant
recognition for the combined efforts of government bodies, industry and
tourism operators and others who continue to address the environmental
concerns of the Great Barrier Reef.
